day 3, morning

[ As promised, Jack is up bright and early (or at least as early as everyone else is) in the morning of day 3. The trial and subsequent execution were still weighing on his mind, but... Probably not as much as it should. It wasn't too difficult for him to morally parse, because even if she'd been innocent, Diva sounded like a pretty awful person. So, really? He didn't care all that much.

Far more important was the interesting little store he'd heard the beginnings of from Shijima. Throwing out pancakes was the most half-assed bribe possible, he would bet, but it still worked. So, good enough.

He's stirring up the basic batter, but he looks back towards Shijima with a grin. He actually seems to be enjoying cooking for her, even if he has a secondary motivation for doing so. ]

So! What're ya feelin', kiddo? Plain pancakes, or more extravagant? I bet I could see what we'd get from the commissary for requesting, y'know, not shit from a can.

[ shijima didn't have to morally parse anything that happened the other day since she...doesn't have many morals, honestly. there are some, kind of, but honestly the times she cares about human laws and right and wrong have to do with when she cares about the humans in question. and she hasn't yet gotten remotely attached to anyone here. her "favorites" are the people who will feed her or otherwise take care of her, but even if they died it would just be a nuisance, not a tragedy.

so she looks more or less the same as she always has since arrival, perched on a clear space of counter and watching the cooking with half-lidded eyes. ]

Extravagant would be acceptable. [ make them fancy, jack. somehow. maybe they can get chocolate. or fruit. or chocolate. ]

That- [ He motions towards her, still grinning happily ] -is what I like to hear!

[ He stirs the batter with a flourish, and then turns to face her. He also definitely waves the spatula in her direction as he talks with his hands here, but he probably doesn't sling any batter. Maybe. ]

So, what kinda extravagance are we talkin' here? Sweet, savory, gold flakes to make you feel like you are the richest pancake master in the world... We've got options!

Sweet. [ ... ] Gold flakes would also be fine.

[ SHIJIMA...but jack maybe don't offer if you can't produce... ]

Iiii don't actually think I can deliver on the gold flakes considering the limited stuff here, but, uh. I'll try, I guess?

[ Jack laughs and shrugs, since, well. He's definitely had gold flake pancakes, so he's not judging. He's also an asshole. ]

But in case that doesn't work out, sweet it is. I'm all about fruit for sweet pancakes, but wanna try for chocolate too?

[ Jack laughs out his approval, and I'm vaguely waving my hand that he goes to get all of this from the commissary. Luckily it counts under the ingredients for one meal umbrella, so Shijima is lucky...??

Though as Shijima gets to the point, Jack glances at her, then shrugs as he tries to keep this casual. ]

You- Well, you were talking about immortality, and that kinda caught my attention. It's something that's just... Well, it's fake. Super fake? But you talk like it's not.

It isn't. Granted, as we all seem to have lost certain abilities, those of us who had any, I can't prove it at the moment...

[ or she'd just. cut off a limb. ]

[ Jack looks slightly doubtful, but it's really more that he's mulling over that possibility. He looks to his pancake batter, then to her before he shrugs. ]

'Kay, so. Stupid question. Why do you look, like, twelve, then?

How much mass do you suppose a cat usually has?

[ like. ]

I could look older, but it's already enough of a pain to do this much of a human body. The smaller it is, the easier it is to maintain...not that that's an issue right now. Since this is what I usually use, I assume that's why I have it...

To be fair here, didn't think that mass corresponded to age, one. Two, cat. Cat?

[ Give him a moment slash don't judge him too much, Shijima... Cat people are new to him ]
